5 Ways to Handle Life's Ups and Downs

Image
This is my first post in a while. At one point I took the site down. September and October were full of extremes. Weeks where every little thing weighed me down, followed by a series of positive changes that seemed to just fall in my lap in a matter of days. This led to weeks of feeling unstoppable and that the pain was over. My path to peace and happiness was so clear and I was enjoying every freaking minute of it.  Boxing analogy? Sure why not? Then it happened again. One negative thing after another. Akin to Rocky taking a beating from the giant Russian in Rocky IV. How could this happen? I was finally on the path. The one that I prayed for. I'm supposed to be the happy guy. I'm supposed to be at peace. I'm supposed to be fulfilling a purpose. I'm supposed to be the fun guy who makes people laugh. Guess what? Life is not designed that way. We need the bad to appreciate the good, the pain to experience the pleasure, and the gloomy days to appreciate the sunny ones. Bu...

5 Ways to be a Morning Person

Image
The older I get the easier it is to be a morning person, but I have recently noticed that there are specific little things that I do to help me go from “Leave Me Alone!”, to “Hey, Good Morning”.  I definitely notice the change on those days I do not want to even open my eyes, let alone walk the dog, pick up her poo, rush back home, wash up, drive to work, and then, ugh the worst, actually talk to people. Once I noticed these daily “rituals” that I practice to be a happy, puppies and rainbows, kind of morning person I started doing a little research.   Which in 2022 means I hit the Google machine. As usual I am going to share some great ideas with you to put a little pep in your step and get you ready to face a new day! 1)    Don’t Think: If you are anything like me, the minute your eyes open your brain starts spinning with all of the things you have to get done that day, personal issues, money, that jerk that cut you off in traffic yesterday… STOP! ...

Blogging is Hard

Image
Hello all, and thanks for checking out my website. I have to say that thinking of blog posts is much easier than creating, editing, and publishing them. Even that last sentence was hard to write, in fact I'm not even sure it makes sense.  Blame those people that have complimented my writing, my energy, my stories... I can't tell you how many times people have told me I should write a book. Yes I can, I lied. 7 times, but one of those people was not my mom.  I guess something stuck because I had the confidence to start this. Yikes, even typing that I have confidence is uncomfortable.  Anyways, whether you stumbled upon this site because a friend shared a post, or found it on the way down a rabbit hole, you can probably tell it is new. If not then let's keep it a secret.  The layout isn't to my liking. There's not enough content. The whole thing is a bit cheesy. I am trying to grow as a person every day and want to share that growth with this blog. I want to teach, en...

5 Ways to Experience Self Care

Image
Life can be draining, and downright depressing at times, but there are ways to keep you from being a Gloomy Gus. How are you supposed to remain positive if you aren't taking care of yourself?  Remember self-care is not  self-ish , but rather  self-less . You need to be your best self if you are going to help others and be a joy to be around, like me, said no one ever.   1) Take Breaks:   Make time for yourself.  Take a walk alone. Read a book. Get a massage. Go for a scenic drive. Listen to soothing music. Meditate? Yes. It is easier than you think, and no incense or sitting crisscross applesauce required. Look at  How to Meditate  for simple meditation exercises. 2) Hygiene:   Are you the stinky kid in class?  Shower regularly.  Nothing feels better than a long hot shower.  Make sure you are brushing your teeth and flossing twice a day. Poor Oral hygiene is directly related to negative health effects incl...

The 5-4-3-2-1 Technique - Refocus, Ground Yourself, and Ease or Prevent a Panic Attack

Image
I first heard about this technique from a woman I dated several years ago. I never forgot it, and since then have heard and read about this technique being used. I have also shared this several times with friends and family members  with positive feedback, so I thought I would share it with you.  First let's address the fact that panic attacks are annoying, uncomfortable, exhausting and well... absolutely terrifying. Panic attacks can last anywhere between a few seconds to minutes... which then feel like hours.  You can feel like you're dying, you can't breathe, your limbs may go numb, or you may feel detached from reality. People can also experience a state of general panic that lasts for days.   I have personally experienced all of the above, and this 5-4-3-2-1 technique has been helpful more than enough times. I am not an expert, take this advice as you wish, for some it may be too uncomfortable or weird to do. I will explain each step of the tech...
